What is Collagen?

When we are young, our skin is soft and elastic, free from the facial lines and tissue damage that time, injury, and disease can cause. This youthful looking skin is due, in a large part, to collagen, the fibrous protein that forms the underlying support layer beneath the skin.

Over time, the skin's network of collagen begins to weaken, causing the skin to lose its elasticity. Collagen injections have been a proven cosmetic medical treatment for over three decades.

Since 1981, collagen injections have been approved by the FDA to replenish the natural collagen that the skin loses over time. Collagen injections are most useful in the treatment of frown lines, "crow’s feet," nasolabial folds (smile lines), and in restoring your skin's suppleness.

Collagen Replacement Therapy is a safe, time-tested, non-surgical treatment that can even out facial lines and scars, as well as improve the look of specific parts of the body. The procedure takes less than one hour, and you'll see immediate results.

When wrinkles are brought to the same level as surrounding skin, their visibility diminishes because the accompanying shadows are nonexistent. This can be accomplished by either lowering the surrounding skin or raising each wrinkle.

Chemical peel, Dermabrasion, and Laser Resurfacing lower the surrounding skin. Fillers such as Collagen aim to raise the wrinkle. Another popular filler is Restylane, which Dr. Kaestner offers patients as well.

The Procedure
Using fine needles, Dr. Kaestner can inject fillers into your skin under each wrinkle. The filler pushes the depressed wrinkle outward and makes it less visible.

This procedure involves temporary discomfort, associated with the needle. Once the injection is complete, there is no more discomfort. You may apply makeup immediately and return to your usual activities. Ask Dr. Kaestner which filler would be right for you.
